Governor Pritzker Helps Kickoff Innovation Hub
The Peoria Innovation Hub is one step close to becoming a reality. Governor JB Pritzker, joined by several local leaders, officially launched the Peoria Innovation Hub at the its future site at the Thomas Building in downtown Peoria.
I really believe that Peoria has a shot of being the central city for the Midwest, to show that anywhere in the Midwest, anywhere if you do it right, anywhere can become a leader in technology and innovation,” – Governor JB Pritzker.
The Peoria Innovation Hub will be part of the Illinois Innovation Network, a group of public universities and community colleges that work together to improve the state’s economy through innovation, research, and education. OSF HealthCare, the University of Illinois System, Illinois Central College, and the GPEDC are all working together to help develop the hub.
The press conference was followed by a workshop to discuss the possibilities for programming and amenities at the Hub, including a makerspace, a digital makerspace, a rooftop greenhouse, and meeting spaces. The main focus of the Hub will involve improving the wellness of underserved populations and advancing systems related to food, farming, and transportation (especially smart and autonomous mobility).
Expect more updates in early 2020 as the Hub comes together and the community develops its official name and brand.
